SAN ANTONIO - February 11-12, the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo held its annual barrel race, hosting many competitors from all over the world. Two $10,000 scholarship were awarded to the two youth exhibitors with the fastest average times from both days of the barrel and pole bending races.

13-year old Patton Ann Lynch from Crawford, Texas was awarded two $10,000 scholarships. Patton is a seventh grader who spends most of her time training horses for the futurity. Patton and her horse, JJJ Bonnie Rae, otherwise known as "Bonnie" has won many prestigious awards. She has been crowned the Josey Jr. World Champion, Elite Youth Extravaganza Champion, and the ANHA Shootout Champion. Patton plans to Tarleton State University. Patton said, "It is a great honor to win this scholarship and it will help me with college." She would like to take all of her sponsors as well as Jordan and Justin Briggs for helping her out with Bonnie. She also wants to thank her family and most importantly she would like to thank her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for giving her this opportunity. |

17-year old Raygan Follis of Colleyville, TX was awarded the first $10,000 scholarship of the night for High Point All-Breed English Rider. Raygan and her horse Mr. Cool Zippo received the greatest number of points in the English classes over the course of the last two days. Raygan is a junior at Keller High School where she is an active FFA member. Follis enjoys judging horses when she is not horse back. Raygan and Mr. Cool Zippo are not new to the winner's circle here in San Antonio, they were the All-Breed High Point Western Rider in 2017. Raygan is very thankful to have the opportunity to compete for a scholarship which will help her at Texas A&M, where she will be studying Equine Nutrition. |

There was a new rider-horse duo in town and that is Sophia Smith and I'm Zipped Allright also known as "Lighting" Sophia is a 16-year old junior from Magnolia, Texas. Sophia has only been riding Lighting for about a month and the San Antonio breed show was their first one together. These two are a great team and it showed because Sophia was awarded 2 $10,000 scholarships because she was named the All-Breed High Point Western Rider and well as All Breed All Around exhibitor. Smith is thankful that LeeAnn Pierce let her ride Lighting because he is such a special horse and he works hard for his riders. The final recipient is 15- year-old Jennifer Staley of Baytown, TX. Jennifer was riding Heavenly flower and was awarded a $10,000 scholarship for High Point Paint Horse English Rider. "Heavenly Flower is super sweet and we are a lot alike," says Staley. Jennifer also is an active member of her local FFA chapter where she judges horses and shows lambs. "It was a remarkable feeling and it's been a long journey for me and flower, so this moment was one I will not forget."- Jennifer Staley |

The $10,000 scholarship winner is 15-year old Annabell Terrell from Austin, Texas. She is a freshman from Dripping Springs High school. Annabell and her horse KB started sorting 3 years ago and learned the game together. They have won over 23 buckles and won a $10,000 scholarship. It is evident that these two make a great team. When Annabell is not in the sorting pen she is training other horses to sort. "I was super excited and it was an adrenaline rush, it meant so much to me to win this scholarship," says Annabell. She plans to attend Texas A&M to become a large animal veterinarian. Annabell would like to thank her friends, family and everyone who rides with her. |

Following the speech round, San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo did what they do best and handed out awards to the top three contestants of each division. The most prestigious award given out was the $10,000 scholarship to the Champion Senior competitor. This year, that scholarship was given to 17-year old Kate McNeill from Pleasanton, TX. Kate is currently a junior at Pleasanton High School. McNeill is an active member of Acee 4-H. She participates in horse judging and rodeos. She also enjoys hunting. At school, Kate is on the Varsity Soccer team. After High school, Kate plans to attend Texas A&M University and major in animal science. After she plans to attend dental school. "Earning this scholarship has been my number one goal for the past seven years, so to finally win it, provides a deep sense of accomplishment," says Kate. McNeill did not just accomplish this goal she did it twice. In 2017 she also won the Horse Skillathon contest and received another $10,000 scholarship. Kate would like to thank the staff for putting on such a challenging event and her mom for always having her back and pushing her to reach her full potential. |

On Saturday, that scholarship was awarded to 17-year old Madison Melasky riding Two Time Dual, otherwise called "Rey." Madison is from Groesbeck, TX and is completing her senior year at Christian Academy of America. When Madison is not attending cutting events, she enjoys hunting. Madison finds herself in the winner's circle again. Madison and Two Time Dual were crowned 2018 NCHA Reserve World Champion in the $15,000 Limit Rider as well as a recipient of the Trey Hunt Scholarship. Madison said, "It means a lot to win the scholarship here in San Antonio, this makes going to college much easier." "I would like to say thank you to my parents, Jeff and Annie Melasky, my grandparents, Jack, and Patricia Mauldin, the Crouch Family, the Brushaw family, the Farris family, for helping me along the way."- Madison |

The first scholarship winner was Sadie Thibodeaux from Shiner, Texas on her horse. Pretty Pocos Ransom also is known as "Pixie". Sadie is a junior at Shiner Catholic School. Sadie and Pixie are a great team. Sadie raised and taught Pixie everything she knows. "She is very consistent and runs both poles, barrels and team roping." Together Sadie and Pixie have won many championships. "I was beyond excited to receive this scholarship. I am glad and thankful to have this money to help further my education." Sadie plans to attend Texas A&M University and study medicine and hopes to be on the rodeo team there. |

The next award went to 17-year old, Shayne Krolczyk, from Cypress, Texas. Shayne won not only the breakaway event with a time of 2.02 seconds on his horse CCR but also won the ribbon roping on Quail Bur King. Shayne enjoys hunting and fishing when he is not at a rodeo. Shayne is not new to the winner's circle. He has also been crowned the TYRA All-Around Champion and Region 7 High School All-Around Champion.
