The champion of the goat tying event was Kristin Reaves 17-year old from Bullard, Texas. Kristin received a $10,000 scholarship that will help her continue her education after high school. Kristin was competing on her for JJ's Denim Shortcut also known as "Shortcut". These two have been partners for 7 years and it showed in her time of 6.69 seconds in this event. Kristin has also won the Hallettsville youth invitational. Kristin is an active member of Whitehouse FFA, competes in track, and plays basketball. Kristin would like to thank her sister, Kaci, for always pushing her to do her best as well as her family.

Emma Smith, a 17-year old junior at Pleasanton High school, won
the $10,000 scholarship for the Barrel racing event. (click to close)
Emma Smith, a 17-year old junior at Pleasanton High school, won the $10,000 scholarship for the Barrel racing event. Emma was riding her horse Double O Daryl also known as "Daryl". "He has quite the quirky personality and is challenging me daily." Emma and Daryl have won Reserve Champions at the Jr. NFA three times. "I feel so incredibly blessed to have been able to compete and win at this competition. It truly is a humbling experience," said Smith. Emma is an active member of her 4-H chapter. She plans to attend Texas A&M and major in Agricultural Business.

The tie-down championship title was award to Quade Hiatt of Canyon, TX. Quade and his horse 2 Chainz earned this title with a time of 8.54 seconds. Quade and his horse 2 Chainz have had the opportunity to win a round of professional rodeo at Denver. Quade appreciates the support that the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo provides to high school students. After High School Quade plans to attend Cisco College.

The team roping event offers two $10,000 scholarships one to each team member who has the fastest time in the final round. This year Luke Williams (header) and Cutter Overton (heeler) received this award. Williams is a 17-year old junior from Brock, TX and attends Brock High School. He is a member for Brock FFA and is the 2017 JR NFR World Champion. Luke plans on attending Texas Tech University and studying Business. Williams would like to thank all of his sponsors, 2L Custom Trucks, Dorham Trailers, Teskey's Saddle Shop, and Fastback Ropes. His partner Cutter Overton is a 17- year old junior from Mineral Wells, TX. Cutter and his horse have come a long way together to be able to win this award. "It is an honor to win this scholarship and it means so much to me to have the support of the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo in furthering my education at Cisco College," says Overton.
